Every week at Lulu and Tullys we turn away 3 to 5 dining room sets! Great right?? We can be extremely picky and have the best quality dining room tables on our floor! You would think this would make us very happy but actually it kind of saddens me! Sad because families just aren't using their dining rooms anymore! No more family dinners at the table! No more discussing your day! No more praying together before a meal!
I know we are all busy! We grab dinner in the car on our way to the next soccer meet or dance lesson. We use our dining tables as a make shift office or a place to store our unwanted and unopened mail. Dining rooms have become the least used room in the house. This week I would love for that to change. I encourage you to sit down with your family and share a meal. Turn the television off and put your cell phones away.
Call me old-fashioned, but I'm in favor of dining rooms. Who doesn't a memory of being squished around the table at your grandparent's house, laughing and eating all afternoon? Meals aren't just about the food that you eat. They're about celebrating life's milestones, sharing family history and honoring victories large or small.
So tonight, pull out your fine china! Let your family know you think they are special! Don't save it for that crazy Aunt at Christmas time. Use it on your husband that you adore and your children that you cherish!
Don't just eat! Enjoy each other. Make a toast! Say a prayer before your meal! At my house we always go around and share the best part of our day! 9 times out of 10 someone says their best part of the day is right then, being in the company of the ones they love!
Use your manners! Teach your children some etiquette or just brush up on your own. Sit up straight! No phones! No hats! Don't interrupt! Use your inside voice! Good manners will set your children up for a lifetime of success with family, friends, and coworkers.
Tonight, I hope you enjoy a meal in your dining room and enjoy each other because isn't that what life is really all about!?
